Danger: Sap Ahead

This weekend we celebrated a hero. This hero began her journey 5 years ago with a diagnosis of breast cancer. She was scared, angry, and worried, but she took it all as a true hero would. Through her bravery I have seen the unending possibilities of the human spirit. While she wasn't alone in her fight and while she's had the support of her family and friends, she has had to shoulder the burden of breast cancer. And she never gave up hope. Even though fear choked her at times, her heart always held the fear at bay and covered it with hope. She's now a symbol of hope.

Just to fight the battle of breast cancer most would say, "This is enough." But she is not most people. It is not enough for her to just survive. Instead she has embraced life and has taken off in a whole new direction. She's survived for 5 years because she's chosen to fight with every ounce of her being. And I'm sure she'll be around for 50 more.

We all gathered to celebrate our hero at Acres of Clams in Seattle. All the people in her life who either have recently joined her life and supported her, or who have been there through it all, gathered to say, "We love you, Blueberry!"

In attendance - from right to left

Back row: Mr. Volleyball, HikerGirl, HandyMan (formally known as HikerBoy), Mr. Stalemate (formally Mr. Newlywed), The MomUnit, Blueberry, The DadUnit
Front Row: Mrs. Newlywed, the Dane, Jules, ChickenLady, and Moi (formally known as the woman who could control her tears).
I know I speak for Blueberry when I say she was very touched by all of us coming together to celebrate her 5 brave years of CANCER FREE.
